The Deadpool 2 Super-Duper Cut Trailer Will Make You Feel Like You Are On Drugs
We've come to expect that the marketing for a Deadpool film will be, well, unique. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 both evoked the irreverence of the title character with satirical, meta, ridiculous and all around hilarious marketing that is almost as entertaining as the films themselves. That fun continues in a new trailer for Deadpool 2's home video release. And by fun, I mean it makes you feel like you are on drugs as you hear colors and see sounds while on a magical musical journey guided by the Merc with the Mouth. If you aren't about to go on a job interview (unless it's for the X-Force), take a look at the trailer for the Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut in the video below:
So I'm guessing that Deadpool used Cable's time-travel device to take a trip to the 1970s and he brought some party favors back with him for inspiration for this trailer. This thing is truly wild and it has something of a mesmerizing quality to it. It's the kind of video you can watch over and over again like a stoner watching Animal Planet. The music, the colors, the cheap looking quality and all the zany characters combine for a truly trippy experience that has basically nothing to do with the movie.
There is some really fun stuff in this trailer too. Brad Pitt's Vanisher even shows up as part of the Deadpool's Super Duper Band. Deadpool looked far and wide to get talented musicians for his band too, recruiting what looks to be a weird version of one of Disney's Country Bears. Whether band members Bear, Gorilla, Vanisher and Mouse continue touring with Deadpool in X-Force remains to be seen. There's also a giant guinea pig, raising the possibility that this Deadpool 2 acid trip takes place in the same universe as the Peruvian flute band episode of South Park.
I'd love to know what the production process was for this trailer. Did someone just get the order to make a trailer for Deadpool 2's Super Duper Cut with no directions or restrictions? Or were the creators just high and they decided to go with it? Flying saucers, sure. Geishas, gargoyles, the Eiffel Tower and UFOs, seemingly nothing was out of bounds. It all works perfectly though, because the beautiful thing about Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is that nothing is too strange and the satirical nature of the property means he works in all contexts.
While you almost certainly wouldn't get this from the trailer (although you might get a contact high), the Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut is 15 minutes longer than the theatrical release, and it comes jam-packed with bonus features and Easter eggs. The Deadpool 2 Super Duper [email protected]%!#& Cut arrives on Digital HD August 7 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD August 21, giving everyone plenty of time to detox from this trailer so that they're safe to drive to the store.
