New Shazam! Video Shows Off His Powers
Captain Marvel may be hitting theaters next month, but in April, the superhero formerly known as Captain Marvel blasts into theaters in Shazam! We are still waiting on a new full trailer for the DCEU film, but while we wait there is new footage teasing the joyous looking comic book movie. The video below shows off the heros powers and a confrontation with Doctor Sivana. Check it out:
The first teaser trailer for Shazam! showed Billy Batson trying to get accustomed to his new body and alongside Freddy Freeman, testing out his powers. He couldnt quite fly in that trailer, instead he was just great at jumping like Jessica Jones. Here we see that Shazam can indeed fly, and that speed of Mercury is on full display as this hero might make Superman look like a slowpoke in comparison. That should make for a fun moment if he ever joins the Justice League.
The shot where the young Billy Batson jumps off a rooftop and shouts out 'Shazam!' while in midair, transforming into his alter-ego and shooting off like a rocket is plain awesome. Shazam isnt just fast in the air either, as throughout this spot from Comicbook.coms YouTube channel, you can see him taking a page out of Flashs book and zipping along on the ground, leaving only a red and yellow streak behind him.
You couple that super speed and flight with his invulnerability (stamina of Atlas), super strength and power to summon lightning and youve got a superhero with a lot of powers and unlike so many other heroes, hes actually having a great time using them.
This spot isnt all powers though, and it also features some fun character moments. The scene with Freddy and Billy trying to get Faithe Hermans Darla Dudley to keep his secret is great. It rings so true to what it is like to be a kid with younger siblings or friends, all trying to make sure you dont get in trouble for something. Only here, that something is that one of you is a magical superhero.
This video also gives us another interaction between Zachary Levis Shazam and Mark Strongs Doctor Sivana. The villain asks Shazam how old he is and he responds basically 15, which probably means 14 and a half. Doctor Sivana must have some sense of the magic at play, as Billys immaturity revealed he is not what he appears. Its a fun moment that also shows how in over his head this young superhero is, dealing with real evil.
We are fast approaching April so hopefully we get an official full-length trailer for Shazam! soon. The David F. Sandberg film is the first entry in the DCEU to arrive after the massive success of Aquaman. The Atlantean gave the DCEU some real momentum and everything weve seen from Shazam! so far makes it look like a super fun movie that could continue Aquamans success.
