Big action movie heroes such as James Bond, Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt have successfully graced the screen for many years with their blockbuster hits. There's just one probelm: where are the kickass female action stars? On the heels of the MCU and movies like Atomic Blonde, the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska and Elizabeth Banks could be the heroes the genre needs. Stewart recently divulged that her newly assembled girl gang won't be the only fierce women in the film, the world will be full of them. In her words:

It's not just three. Women across the entire globe are connected and helping each other.

Freshly-named Charlie's Angel Kristen Stewart explained in an interview with Variety that the reboot will feature a whole network of angels who work together to get the job done. When speaking about the re-imagining, Stewart has expressed before how the film will show how women can work together, snd now we know a little more about what she means. While the new Charlie's Angels will certainly center on the team of three women, they will likely have run-ins with more ladies in various locations around the world ready to provide back up. This kind of world in an action film sounds unique and refreshing, especially since it signals that the cast will be even more female than one might have realized.

The film follows the early-00's McG franchise starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore. While the movies were fun and entertaining, the film landscape has changed, and the same approach to Charlie's Angels won't faire as well as it did almost 20 years ago. Kristen Stewart said the upcoming reboot will be indeed fun and feel like a Charlie's Angels movie, but it will be more modern and "woke" compared to its predecessor. While the previous films had the women in hyper-realistic action situations that were over-the-top and campy, the new Charlie's Angels women will be believably strong and well within their ability to pick a fight and win.

Elizabeth Banks is leading the reimagining as director, co-writer and actress (as she will portray a female Bosley) in Charlie's Angels. She has said that she is determined to do right by the franchise and make it really matter this time. Ex-angels Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore have voiced their excitement for the reboot, as Liu said it will be a "positive result for women". Among an exciting line-up of 2019 movies releases, the new take on the Charlie's Angels franchise is set to be released on September 27, 2019.

While the DC Extended Universe is embarking down a different path than what was initially planned, one of its most popular heroes isnt going anywhere. The Batman is still chugging along, and while someone else will be taking over the Caped Crusader role from Ben Affleck, it remains one of the DCEUs most highly anticipated projects. However, delivering exceptional products takes time, and in The Batmans case, that could result in another filming delay.

Back in March, writer/director Matt Reeves, whos been attached to The Batman since early 2017, said that it looked like the movie would start rolling cameras around years end. Now Varietys Justin Kroll has heard that some script changes might result in that launch date being pushed back a bit. He wrote:

Its taken a while for The Batman script to come together, as Matt Reeves was still busy with War for the Planet of the Apes when he first boarded the project, and he also re-wrote it from scratch to allow for more creative freedom. The script is closer than ever to completion, but polishing up the story is part of the game, and moving back production by just a couple months isnt too big of a deal.

However, The Batman delaying production isnt set in stone just yet. If these script changes dont end up taking too much extra time, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez has heard that filming is set to begin on November 4 in London. So The Batman is still gearing up to finally begin principal photography, the question now is whether it will be unfold pre or post-Christmas 2019.

Of course, even if The Batman begins production within the next year, itll still be a long journey for the finished product to arrive. The movie isnt being released until summer 2021, and while there are a few DCEU movies before then to keep fans entertained, itll have been four years since Ben Afflecks Batman made his final appearance in Justice League. Still, it was a seven-year wait between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins, so this isnt as bad.

In any case, it sounds like were still in for a long wait regarding who will inherit the Batman mantle from Ben Affleck. All we know for certain is that a younger actor is being sought to put on the cape and cowl, and that Matt Reeves reportedly wants someone famous. Its also worth clarifying that even though this Batman will be younger, The Batman is not an origin story akin to Year One.

Beyond that, Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman will a noir-driven story that highlights the eponymous protagonists detective skills, which werent prominently featured in previous Batman movies. He also noted that many members of Batmans rogues gallery would appear, with The Penguin reportedly among them.

Shazam! Wont Be A Straight Adaptation Of The New 52 Run

Shazam has been around since 1939, which means the new movie has a lot of history to draw from when creating the character. I had a chance to visit the set of Shazam! last year, and in getting a look at the new film, it was clear that the New 52 reboot version of the character was a significant part of the inspiration of the movie. However, this recent update to the character isn't the only part of comic book history that being used to design the film version. As director David F. Sandberg explained on the set...

Yeah, I wanted to incorporate a little bit of everything, not just in 52, but the older stuff as well, which is... The suit is one part of that where it's like, 'Yeah, I want the shorter cape of like the Golden Age.' But then we ... And like, 'Let's try the hood from the new 52.' And little things like that, and trying to balance it. So we have things and references from the old comics, but a lot of the story takes inspiration from the new 52. So it's a combination of like, 'Oh, I like this, and we like that, and let's put it together.

With a history 80 years long, Shazam, or as he was known for most of that time, Captain Marvel, has been through it all. We've seen numerous changes to the hero over the decades, including the New 52 reboot from 2011. That version of the character sees teenage Billy Batson as a troubled foster kid who ends up in a home with several other children before being given the powers of Shazam. That's very much the origin story that we will see in the movie, but there's a lot more where that came from.

The costume, as David F. Sandberg mentions, has elements of both the classic Captain Marvel and modern Shazam on display, which therefore makes it different than either. Clearly, the filmmakers weren't worried about making sure that the film version of Shazam fit some sort of preconceived notion, and instead used whatever they could find to make the best movie possible.

Zachary Levi specifically mentioned the comic series Kingdom Come was a major influence for him. Even though the story itself will have nothing to do with the Shazam! movie, it did give Levi special insight into the sort of character he was playing.

I did quite like Kingdom Come. Even though that's a completely different situation, it shows Captain Marvel in a really incredible... the innocence. He's an adult and he still has that heart. I thought, 'That's such a cool thing to be able to take that in and is ultimately a sacrificial move at the end and all of that.' I just found that was more inspiration for me than even The New 52 in a lot of ways

Those who have been fans of Captain Marvel throughout the decades will likely want to keep an eye out for the ways that the various iterations of the character are represented in the new film. In addition to the direct references, there are also some easter egg references to the classic character fans will surely recognize.

Nobody was quite ready for the runaway success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, but based on the box office returns it appears that there are a lot of people who might want to hear what Dwayne Johnson has to say about a potential follow-up. The Rock took to Instagram to thank the fans of Welcome to the Jungle for making it the biggest domestic movie ever for Sony, and after doing so, he let those same fans know that work has already begun on a direct sequel, which is likely good news for the entire cast, except possibly one of them. Kevin Hart could be in trouble. As Johnson explained...

As producer of Jumanji, we are working on the sequel right now and speaking of giving the audience what they want, I'm going to go ahead and kill Kevin Hart's character off for good and everybody will be happy.

As one might expect, Johnson is having some fun at the expense of Hart, who he is now looking to co-star with for the third time. Although, if the avatars of the next Jumanji have the same weaknesses as they did this time around, Kevin Hart's character better hope there isn't too much cake around, or he could end up dead after all.

This isn't the first we've heard that a Jumanji sequel was likely, but is confirmation that it is being actively worked on. The word was Sony was eyeing a 2019 holiday season release, which would put the new Jumanji up against Star Wars: Episode IX, something that seems crazy, until you realize that Welcome to the Jungle was able to hold its own against Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It's all the more impressive that Sony was able to see their biggest movie alongside such competition. It's clear that even Dwayne Johnson wasn't expecting it to do as well. The question then becomes what form a new Jumanji would take. The game was seemingly destroyed at the end of the recent film, although, clearly the game has some kind of a mind of its own. It's also never been stated that the version of the board game unearthed by Alan Parrish, that became the game cartridge in Welcome to the Jungle, was the only copy of the game. We don't know where it originally came from, so who knows what the history of it truly is.
