Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Honest Trailer Pokes Fun At The Polarizing Fan Reactions

There is arguably no franchise with as passionate a fanbase as Star Wars, and there has been no film in recent memory to prove as divisive as Star Wars: The Last Jedi was among the saga's most ardent supporters. Countless fans, all boasting their credentials and wearing their fandom like a rebel patch on their sleeve, exalted Rian Johnson's film as the best film since Empire or denounced it as a sin far greater than even Jar Jar Binks. It is this hyper-polarization that is highlighted in the Honest Trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Check it out below:

What I like about this Honest Trailer is that it pokes fun at the movie itself, while primarily focusing on the biggest story to come out of it: the divided fan reaction. The two dueling fan perspectives is hilarious and really highlights how all the people raging against each other on social media and in comments sections are actually part of the same small portion of the population that is dedicated to the franchise in this way. But naturally, as with anything people are passionate about, opinions are hard to change, and there is little room for nuance or understanding. As the Honest Trailer says, "The only way to talk about Star Wars now is in absolutes."

The Honest Trailer also touches on some of the things that even defenders of the film took issue with, like the Canto Bight events. The commentator talking about the Canto Bight sequence making him miss podracing is hilarious. And I will say the podracing sequence in The Phantom Menace was way more exciting than the fathier escape. The bitter fanboy voice saying that 'Star Wars is not a joke' and 'Rian Johnson ruined my childhood' is on point and shines a mirror on how ridiculous some of the hatred for the film has gotten.

Another of the criticisms of the film has been the hyperspace move by Admiral Holdo that essentially breaks some of the internal logic of the film. But as this trailer points out, there are no laws of space battle. The sound in the battles alone have long since disqualified this franchise from winning any Neil deGrasse Tyson awards for scientific accuracy. This trailer also acknowledges The Last Jedi's complete disregard for the questions raised in The Force Awakens and the disappointing nature of the answers offered. But even in a film as divisive as this one, we can all agree on the mind-boggling awesomeness of that throne room scene.

Brilliantly, the trailer ends with a dig at Solo: A Star Wars Story, a film whose storied production troubles will inevitably lead to a savage Honest Trailer in the future. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on Blu-ray today. Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on May 25.

Dwayne Johnson Shares Jumanji 3 Set Photo With Karen Gillan

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a massive hit that ended up giving Star Wars: The Last Jedi more of a run for its money at the box office than anybody ever expected. Jumanji and Star Wars are now getting ready to go head-to-head once again as Jumanji 3 is set to go up against Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Dwayne Johnson recently shared a new photo of himself and co-star Karen Gillan which shows the pair in a brand new setting, a desert.

If you didn't actually see Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, then the title is still a pretty big give away that the last movie took place entirely within a jungle setting. Since we don't know what the plot of the new film is, it's been unclear how it would plan to differentiate itself from the last movie, and it seems that at least part of the reason is that the story will unfold outside of the jungle setting that Jumanji has been so closely related to .

Dwayne Johnson's Instagram post shows sand as far as the eye can see. Other images that we've seen from production show the main cast in different outfits, including clothing that's clearly meant to keep them warm, which would imply they also end up somewhere very cold. I assumed we'd see them in the snow, though it's possible they could just end up at the desert at night.

Beyond that, the only changes come in the form of additions to the cast. Danny Devito, Awfwafina, and Danny Glover have been confirmed to be in the film, but their roles have not been revealed, so whether they're real world characters, in-game characters, or any two of them combine to make up a single character inside and outside the game, is anybody's guess.

Beyond the backdrop, the image doesn't tell us much. It's just two of our favorite characters from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle looking sufficiently badass, but really that's good enough.

Karen Gillan herself responded to Dwayne Johnson's post with some great comments. She says "Awkward teenage love and crime" is the name of her autobiography. Gillan also gets a very positive response from her current on-screen dad, Josh Brolin.

The only real question right now about the project is that the film began production only this past February, and with a December release date, the movie isn't going to have a lot of time for post-production compared to your average blockbuster. While there weren't necessarily a lot of digital effects in the last film, there were some, and it looks like the post production team may end up with a tighter than usual window for getting that work done.

Overall Jumanji 3, or whatever it ends up being called, is looking to be a lot more of the same fun that made Welcome to the Jungle a hit with audiences.The next Jumanji is set for release December 13.

In-between all these massive movie projects (he's also got Disney's Jungle Cruise with Emily Blunt on the go), he's found time to begin production on Jumanji 3. In fact, co-star Karen Gillan has tweeted the first shot from the set, in which she and Johnson appear alongside returning cast members Jack Black and Kevin Hart.

The Rock's New Hobbs And Shaw Cast Photo Is The Most Badass Yet

There are plenty of blockbusters looking to steal your attention this year, but none of them quite match the masculinity of Hobbs and Shaw. The first ever Fast and Furious spinoff teams up Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham to fight against Idris Elba. Johnson can always be counted on to hype up his projects, and he shared a new photo of the movie that might just be the most badass one yet.

Thanks to their great onscreen chemistry, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are getting their own Fast and Furious movie. Their two characters, Hobbs and Shaw, became frenemies in Fate of the Furious. Their funny insults and rivalry marked a highlight of the movie. Not too much is known about the plot of this film, but it will involve Hobbs and Shaw teaming up against Idris Elba's villain Brixton.

Dwayne Johnson has always been an active force on social media, promoting his projects and sharing pictures from the set with his fans. The actor has already shared a few images of Hobbs and Shaw, which featured the first images of Idris Elba and fellow franchise newcomer Vanessa Kirby. Now Johnson has shared a look at the core trio of Hobbs, Shaw, and Brixton, each one looking real tough and staring intently.

Here's what Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had to say in his Instagram post about the photo and working on the movie:

An exclusive lil' taste of biggest showdown the summer has ever seen. The Outlaw Lawman, HOBBS. The International Spy, SHAW. The Baddest Bad Guy the Fast & Furious franchise has ever had, BRIXTON. We're either gonna get along, or we get it on. Fuuuck gettin' along, gettin' it on is way more fun. On a biz note, this film has been a fun one to produce, and our [global] audience is gonna have an absolute blast this summer.

Now, in case it isn't clear, people are going to be gettin' it on in this movie, and they're going to be doing it a lot.

This being the first Fast and Furious spinoff, I'm very curious to see how people react to Hobbs and Shaw. In addition to the over-the-top action, the draw of Fast and Furious is the ensemble, so how will a smaller cast play out?

That being said, they couldn't have picked a better cast to start it off. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham were two of the best parts of Fate of the Furious, and Idris Elba as the "baddest bad guy" ever? Sign me up! Plus, it looks like it won't have a short supply of badass. There's plenty of black leather to spare in that photo.
