Among the large line-up of projects announced to join the expanding the DC Universe, Green Lantern Corps is one of the most exciting. The film is still in early stages of development, and a Hal Jordan and John Stewart have yet to be cast as the iconic Emerald Knights. Digital artist Dalton Barrett took to Instagram to share his vision for John Krasinski as Hal Jordan, and it's a quite convincing fan-casting. After his breakout role as Jim Halpert in The Office, the actor has shown his range to take on a variety of genres recently as an action star in 13 Hours and John Clancy's Jack Ryan.
The bold and brash Air Force pilot turned galactic police officer could certainly be Krasinski's most high-profile role yet, and his blend of comedic and dramatic acting chops makes him a great candidate to suit up in green. The actor was also recently fan-casted as Mr. Fantastic alongside his wife Emily Blunt as Susan Storm in a reboot for the Fantastic Four. When Krasinski was asked about his interest in the role, he seemed more than willing and ready to take something from the superhero mythos on.
John Krasinski isn't the only actor fans have been eyeing to take on Hal Jordan. Rumors have also suspected Armie Hammer and Tom Cruise as Green Lantern as well. Considering DC's track record, the studio might also opt for off-the-radar lead actors to become Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as they did with Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill when they were cast in their superheroic roles.
With DCEU projects recently undergoing shuffling and being delayed, Green Lantern Corps is unfortunately susceptible to this treatment as well. The project does have a release date set for July 24, 2020, and per a recent update by Geoff Johns, the script is still in early works. Johns is a comic book writer who reinvigorated Green Lantern on comic book pages, and looks to be committed to doing right by the characters on screen.
The iconic DC comic character was first seen on screen in 2011's Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds. Considering how much success Reynolds has now found as Deadpool, one might conclude that it's not necessarily all about the actor, but about how good the vision is for the character onscreen. Hopefully Green Lantern Corps can get off the ground, learn from the flop in 2011 and do the superhero justice.
Green Lantern Corps will focus on the team of powerful galactic ring-bearers, with Hal Jordan and John Stewart both set to star in the film. The universe of Green Lantern has tons of cinematic potential that could finally bring the characters of the DCEU to space as the MCU film Guardians of the Galaxy set up in 2014.
