That Time Star Wars Totally Ruined A Date For John Boyega

The resurgence of Star Wars with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has fundamentally changed the Hollywood landscape. In that regard, one of the most notable things that the new slate of movies from the galaxy far, far away has done is introduce the world to John Boyega and Finn. The fame created by his heroic role in this franchise has helped pave the way for his successful career, but it sounds like the fame has also hindered his love life. During a recent interview on the Fitzy and Wippa radio show in Australia, John Boyega recounted the experience of showing a date a poster for The Force Awakens, saying:

It was bad. It was the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster with the lightsaber, and [I said], 'That's what I do.' And she was kind of like, 'Yeah, that's not the life for me.' A lot of women don't want that. They don't want the loudness. It's too loud. And I respect her for that. I liked that.

John Boyega certainly wasn't plucked from complete obscurity to play Finn in the Star Wars movies. Prior to this casting, he had already delivered a scene-stealing performance in the alien invasion thriller Attack the Block. That said, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was really the first time that he achieved mainstream, worldwide recognition, and it sounds like the girl he was on a date with in that story was not interested in going along for that ride.

With that said, it does not sound like John Boyega harbors any ill will towards the girl in this story. As he made sure to point out in his appearance on Fitzy and Wippa, he respects her decision to stay out of the limelight.

Of course, while John Boyega's romantic prospects were slightly altered by his newfound fame, it is worth mentioning that other avenues of his life were also changed and arguably improved upon. Specifically, John Boyega has handily turned into one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars over the course of the last few years. His role as Finn in the Star Wars franchise eventually paved the way for him to take on roles in films like Detroit and The Circle, and he will continue his work in the blockbuster genre later this month when Pacific Rim Uprising is released.

Audiences can see where Finn goes next when Star Wars: Episode IX debuts next year on December 20. For now, make sure to preorder your Digital HD copy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will be available on March 14, and watch out for the film's Blu-ray and 4K release two weeks later on March 27. You can also catch John Boyega's next project when Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on March 23.
