New Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Footage Reveals A Spoiler About Blue
A big part of 2015's Jurassic World was the relationship between Chris Pratt's Owen Grady and the raptor Blue. That relationship was tested throughout the film with nurture ultimately winning out over nature and Blue saving the day. More than any other dinosaur in the series before it, Blue has been set up as character in her own right, and that only looks to continue in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Blue has been a big part of the trailers so far, which have teased how important she is to the plot of the film and now new footage tells us exactly why. There's a spoiler below, but it's in the marketing, so Universal seems to want us to know before going into the movie. Take a look.
As suspected, Blue's DNA has been used as the basis for the new hybrid dinosaur, the death-dealing Indoraptor. We had heard in previous trailers that Blue was the last of her kind, which is kind of sad, and now we see why the shadowy figures in suits want her so badly. Blue is special, in fact she is key to this whole scheme. It was probably critical to the development of the Indoraptor that Blue be brought off the island alive, so that is likely why Owen was used to bring her in, not knowing the true intention of the mission. We saw Velociraptor DNA used as part of the Indominous Rex's genetic profile in the last film, but here we see that Blue's DNA will be the foundation of the new designer dinosaur.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex can maybe wreak the most havoc and cause the most damage in total, but pound for pound, as we've seen since the first Jurassic Park, Velociraptors are smarter, deadlier and more capable. Beyond just being lethal, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom seems like it will probably pick up the thread of the last film with the military applications of the dinosaurs. Owen Grady has proven that Velociraptors are trainable, so it is easy to see why the moneymen wanted to base this new creature on that species. Blue is special in that she is the last of that species that proved trainable, but she was also the most obedient of all the raptors, making her DNA the perfect starting point for those looking to create deadly living weapons that can be controlled.
As we've seen from this trailer and others, the monstrosity created with Blue's DNA is something to behold. The Indoraptor appears to have all the intelligence and deadliness of the raptors while also being bigger, stronger and more capable, as well as having the camouflage abilities of the Indominous Rex. Although I doubt she'll prove as coachable as the villains hope. I will say I am quite worried about Blue making it out of that bedroom fight alive facing off with such a lethal foe.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is in a full court marketing press with early reactions to the film being very positive. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters on June 22nd.
