An Incredibles 2 Graphic Novel And A Comics Miniseries Are Coming Later This Year

Coming off the heels of the enormously successful Coco, Pixar is revisiting another one of its properties this summer, The Incredibles. It's been 14 years since we last saw the superpowered Parr family in action, though as far as those within that world are concerned, Incredibles 2 picks up immediately after the events of the first movie. In any case, for longtime fans of The Incredibles, having these characters back is a treat, but the fun doesn't end with the sequel. It's been announced that an Incredibles 2 graphic novel and comic book miniseries will also be released later this year.

Even though Marvel Comics is now part of the Disney family, EW reports that these Incredibles 2 tie-in comics projects will be put out by Dark Horse Comics, which previously published a comic book adaptation of the first Incredibles movie and also has a Frozen miniseries coming out this summer. The Incredibles 2 graphic novel, titled DisneyPixar's Incredibles 2: Heroes at Home, follows Violet and Dash as they take care of housework while their parents are busy with new jobs. However, during a visit to the grocery store, Violet and Dash have to jump into superhero mode upon noticing criminal activity, but even if that wasn't an issue, the kids will have enough trouble doing chores due to their infant brother Jack-Jack causing chaos. DisneyPixar's Incredibles 2: Heroes at Home is being written by Liz Marsham and illustrated by Nicoletta Baldari.

As for the comic book miniseries, titled DisneyPixar's Incredibles 2: Crisis in Mid-Life! & Other Stories, each of the three issues will contain two parallel stories. The first story, "Crisis in Mid-Life," will follow Mr. Incredible attempting to stop The Underminer from interfering with a submarine dedication ceremony, which will lead to Bob Parr questioning his powers. The second story, titled "Bedtime Story," will see Bob telling Jack-Jack a story of one of his greatest adventures from his original tenure as Mr. Incredible that Violet and Dash haven't heard before. These issues will also include a back-up story starring Jack-Jack, who is arguably the most powerful member of the Parr family given how many abilities he's demonstrated. DisneyPixar's Incredibles 2: Crisis in Mid-Life! & Other Stories is being written by Christos Gage and Landry Q. Walker, with Gurihiru, J.Bone, Andrea Greppi, and Roberta Zanotta handling illustration duties.

Publishing Incredibles 2 tie-in comic book material is a smart move on Disney's part. Not only is this a fun way for fans of all ages to follow along with the Parr family away from the movies, but a superhero property like this is especially at home in a comic book setting. Depending on how well the graphic novel and comic book miniseries sell, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney greenlighted an ongoing comic book series for Dark Horse to publish, allowing the adventures to continue for years to come.

It remains to be seen when the Incredibles 2 tie-in graphic novel and comic book miniseries will hit shelves, but the sequel movie itself will be released in theaters on June 15. To learn what other movies are arriving this year, browse through our 2018 release schedule.
